The approach to financial counselling adopted by the Steps Simulated Workplace is grounded in the belief that all people should have access to the highest possible quality support for their financial matters, regardless of their financial situation.
Students doing their placements in the Steps Simulated Workplace are supported by a group of highly experienced mentors to provide financial counselling services in line with Australian Financial Counselling Code of Ethical practice and reflective of best-practice industry standards.
In undertaking their placements in the Steps program, students will practice and demonstrate:
- acting professionally and ethically;
- explaining the role of a financial counsellor;
- providing tailored referrals when the student cannot assist acting in their client’s best interests;
- getting to know their client and their priorities;
- obtaining their client’s instructions and acting on those instructions in a timely manner;
- giving tailored advice;
- a strategic approach to casework;
- keeping the client informed; and
- skills in case management.
